Many folks don’t realize
that most of the important work that goes into making the
perfect wine begins in the vineyard. If you’re going
to make a silk purse you don’t start with a sow’s
ear, as the old saying goes. So it is with fine wine-making.
Attention to detail in the vineyard yields the excellent
fruit that goes into your favorite Penman Springs wine.
It all starts with laying out the vineyard to compliment
the different varietals being grown. Attention to fruit
exposure, vine training, canopy growth and coverage,
irrigation, soil structure, the weather. All these factors
and more come together to make the finished product resplendent
or a dud. In the case of Penman Springs Vineyard, all
these factors are diligently watched over by Carl. He’s
out every day checking the vines, looking carefully for
any sign of something going awry. |
